Section Saf-C 403.22 - Hull Numbers Issued by the Department

(a) When a vessel bears no manufacturer's hull identification number because it is homemade or was constructed before identification numbers were required, the registrant shall so notify the division of motor vehicles and the director shall issue an identification number for such vessel.
(b) Hull identification numbers issued by the director shall bear the prefix NHZ and be followed by 9 numbers for entry in the National Crime Information Center (NCIC).
(c) Hull identification numbers shall be issued and recorded at the Concord boat registration desk, division of motor vehicles.
(d) For any registration transacted by a boat agent, a hull identification number shall be assigned, if necessary, at the time the registration is processed.
(e) Hull identification numbers issued by the director shall be permanently affixed to the transom of the vessel in plain view.
