(a) Interior lamps shall be provided to illuminate the aisle and stepwell of each school bus.
(b) Each school bus body shall be equipped with rear turn signal lamps which:
(1) Are a minimum of 7 inches in
diameter;
(2) Meet the
manufacturer's specifications;
(3)
Are connected to the chassis hazard warning switch to cause simultaneous
flashing of turn signal lamps when necessary as a traffic hazard
warning;
(4) Are placed as wide
apart as practical, with their centerline approximately 8 inches below the rear
windows; and
(5) Are a minimum of
21 square inches in the lens area, if a type A conversion school bus.
(c) Each school bus shall have:
(1) Two stop lamps a minimum of 7 inches in
diameter, or if a shape other than round, a minimum of 38 square inches of
illuminated area mounted on the rear of the bus just inside the turn
signals;
(2) Two combination stop
and tail lamps a minimum of 4 inches in diameter, or if a shape other than
round, a minimum of 12 square inches of illuminated area placed on the rear of
the body between the beltline and the floorline which emits a steady light when
illuminated; and
(3) A rear license
plate lamp which may be combined with one lower tail lamp.
(d) A back-up light shall be installed on each side of the body at the rear and shall be wired so that when the transmission is in reverse, the light shall be activated. The light shall not remain activated when the bus is in forward motion.
(e) All lights shall be incandescent or light-emitting diode (LED).
