(a) Front bumpers shall:

(1) Be furnished by the chassis manufacturer as part of the chassis;

(2) Extend beyond the forward-most part of the body, grill, hood and fenders, at the top line of the bumper;

(3) Have at a minimum, an 8 inch face painted black, and shall extend to protect the outer edges of the fenders; and

(4) Be made of pressed steel channel or equivalent material no less than 3/16 of an inch thick.

(b) Rear bumpers shall:

(1) Have at a minimum, an 8 inch face painted black;

(2) Be made of pressed steel channel or equivalent material no less than 3/16 of an inch thick;

(3) Be attached directly to the chassis frame with a provision for easy removal and shall wrap around the rear corners of the body to a point no less than 12 inches forward, measured from the face of the bumper;

(4) Be designed to prevent hitching or riding thereon and shall be of sufficient strength to permit the school bus to be pushed by another vehicle of comparable weight, without causing any permanent deformation;

(5) Extend rearward a minimum of one inch to protect all lamps but not more than 2 inches beyond the rearmost part of the body surface, measured at the floor line; and

(6) If provided by the chassis manufacturer, be permitted on type A conversion school buses.

(c) The bumpers of each school bus may be marked diagonally 45 degrees down to the centerline of pavement with 2 inch X 1/4 inch wide strips of non-contrasting reflective material.
