Unless this requirement is waived by the parties, a sound recording of the hearing shall be made by the presiding officer and the record shall be maintained by the retirement system for a minimum period of 90 days from the date of board of trustees' action on the presiding officer's recommendation. A party requesting a copy of the sound recording shall be granted access to it for copying purposes. Either party may have a stenographer present, however, unless otherwise agreed, all parties shall bear their own stenographic costs.
