(a) Medication used to control a child's behavior shall be authorized only by a written prescription.
(b) The resident director shall have a signed release from the parent or legal guardian authorizing the administration of medication.
(c) The parent or legal guardian shall provide written approval to changes in a juvenile's prescription medication.
(d) The rationale and authorization for the use of medications to control a child's behavior shall be kept on file in the child's record.
(e) The resident director or his or her designee shall be responsible for:
(1)
Keeping medications in a locked area; and
(2) Establishing safeguards for administering
medications, including:
a. The maintenance of
medication logs;
b. An accounting
system that ensures that medication is distributed at prescribed doses;
and
c. On-going training for staff
on recognizing the signs and side effects of medications.
