Section 652.485 - Technicians: Certification in specialty; designation on certificate

1. To be certified in a specialty by the Division, a technician must:
(a) Pass a
national examination for certification in the specialty, if such an examination
is given;
(b) Be a high school
graduate or the equivalent; and
(c)
Have:
(1) Completed at least 1 year of a
formal program of training in the specialty, which is approved by the Division;
or
(2) At least 2 consecutive years
of experience working in the specialty, during the 5 years immediately
preceding application for certification, in a laboratory under the supervision
of a director who possesses a doctoral degree.
2. An applicant for certification in a specialty must designate on the application the specialty in which he or she desires to be certified. The applicant must submit with the application:
(a) Verification of successful completion of
a program of training required by subparagraph (1) of paragraph (c) of
subsection 1; or
(b) A letter from
the director of the laboratory in which the applicant obtained experience which
verifies that the applicant has the experience required by subparagraph (2) of
paragraph (c) of subsection 1.
3. A certificate will designate the holder by:
(a) The title of "Technician" in a
specialty; or
(b) An equivalent
title and will show the area of specialty by a subtitle.
