PRESCRIPTIONS

1. A prescription for spectacle lenses must specify the refractive power necessary for best vision.
2. A prescription for polymethylmethacrylate (Hydrophobic) contact lenses must specify the base curve, diameter and refractive power of the lenses.
3. A prescription for rigid gas permeable contact lenses must:
(a) Specify the base curve, diameter and
refractive power of the lenses;
(b)
Specify the:
(1) Brand name or manufacturer
and type of lens; or
(2) The actual
materials desired, with their ability to transmit oxygen;
and
(c) State whether the
prescription is for daily wear or for a stated maximum number of 24- hour
periods.
4. A prescription for soft contact lenses must:
(a) Specify the base curve or equivalent,
diameter and refractive power of the lenses;
(b) Specify the:
(1) Brand name
and type of lens; or
(2) The actual
materials desired, with their percentage of water content and thickness;
and
(c) State whether
the prescription is for daily wear or for a stated maximum number of 24- hour
periods.
