Section 587.050 - Labels: Seed preplanted in medium for germination

Seed sold or offered for sale in containers in which it is preplanted in a medium for germination, or in mats, tapes or similar devices is subject to the following provisions:

1. If the seed is placed in the medium, mat, tape or other device in such a way as to make it difficult to determine the quantity of seed without removing it from the medium, mat, tape or other device, the label must bear a statement to indicate the minimum number of seeds in the unit and a statement showing the year for which packaged.

2. Kinds of seed in preplanted containers, mats, tapes and other devices, for which a minimum standard for germination has not been established, must meet a minimum standard of 50 percent or have the actual percentage clearly shown in a conspicuous place on the unit in not less than 8-point type.
