Current through September 16, 2024
1. Brake shoes or disc pads must be properly installed.
2. The brake friction lining must be securely bonded or riveted to the brake shoe or disc plate and free from any cracks extending into rivet holes that may weaken the lining attachment.
3. The brake lining friction surface must be free of contamination by brake fluid, grease or oil.
4. The brake friction lining must have a minimum thickness of 1/32 inch above any rivet head on riveted linings or at its thinnest point on bonded linings.
5. The wire in wire-backed brake lining must not be visible in the friction surface.
6. Brake drums or disc brake rotors must not be contaminated in such a manner as to change the frictional qualities of the friction face or show mechanical damage to the friction surface other than wear.
7. Brake drums must be free of any external cracks, except when the drum is properly banded to prevent the crack from expanding to any degree upon the application of brakes or otherwise. Any bands so used must be free of cracks.
