Section 484D.160 - Noise emission tests: Personnel; instrumentation

1. Persons selected to conduct noise measurement testing or to measure noise level of vehicles operated on a highway shall have been trained and qualified in the techniques of sound measurement and the operation of sound measuring instruments.
2. Equipment used in making vehicle noise measurements must meet the following requirements:
(a) The sound level meter must meet the
requirements of ANSI Standard S 1.4 -1971, except that the B and C weighting
networks and the slow-acting indicator need not be incorporated in the
instrument.
(b) The sound level
calibrator must be an auxiliary acoustical calibrator of the coupler type
specified in ANSI Standards S 1.4 -1971.
(c) Any windscreen or nose cone used with the
sound level meter must be calibrated in accordance with instructions of the
manufacturer of the microphone or sound level meter.
(d) A tachometer must be used to determine
when maximum engine speed is attained in conducting the tests specified for in
NAC 484D.155.
