Radiation Safety Requirements for Well Logging
Section 459.7705 - Logging supervisors: Training

A licensee shall include the following subjects in the training required by NAC 459.7701:

1. Fundamentals of radiation safety, including:

(a) Characteristics of radiation;

(b) Units of radiation dosage and quantity of radioactivity;

(c) Hazards of exposure to radiation;

(d) Levels of radiation from radioactive material;

(e) Methods of controlling radiation dosage (time, distance and shielding); and

(f) Radiation safety practices, including prevention of contamination and methods of decontamination.

2. Radiation detection instruments, including:

(a) Use, operation, calibration and limitations of radiation survey instruments;

(b) Survey techniques; and

(c) Use of personnel monitoring equipment.

3. Equipment, including:

(a) Operation of equipment, including source handling equipment and remote handling tools;

(b) Storage, control and disposal of licensed material; and

(c) Maintenance of equipment.

4. The requirements of pertinent division regulations.

5. Case histories of accidents in well logging.
