Section 445A.6685 - Use of sodium hypochlorite

If sodium hypochlorite is used for the disinfection of water, the supplier of water shall:
1. Take appropriate actions to prevent the natural decomposition of the sodium hypochlorite, including:
(a) Obtaining fresh
sodium hypochlorite.
(b) Using the
sodium hypochlorite as soon as practicable after it is manufactured. Containers
of sodium hypochlorite must indicate the date when the sodium hypochlorite was
manufactured.
(c) Shielding tanks
for the storage of sodium hypochlorite from sunlight.
(d) Storing the sodium hypochlorite at a low
temperature.
(e) Maintaining a pH
between 12 and 13 when diluting the sodium hypochlorite for storage.
2. Keep the sodium hypochlorite away from any equipment, piping or wiring that is susceptible to damage from corrosion.
