Section 445A.559 - Minimum requirements for sanitization

1. The operator shall sanitize all equipment, containers and other surfaces which come into contact with processed water.
2. The operator shall maintain a record of the intensity of the sanitizing agent used and the length of time during which the agent was in contact with the surface being sanitized.

When a container is sanitized with a substance other than one listed in 21 C.F.R. § 178.1010, as that provision existed on April 1, 1993, the substance must be removed from the surface of the container in the final rinse before the container is filled with the treated water. The rinse must consist of water which is free of pathogenic bacteria or sanitized by one of the methods listed in subsection 3.
