Section 445A.554 - Standards for bottled water: Radioactive elements

When bottled water is delivered to a customer or placed in a vending machine, the water must not contain:

1. A combined radium-226 and radium-228 activity in excess of 5 picocuries per liter of water;

2. A gross alpha particle activity (including radium-226, but excluding radon and uranium) in excess of 15 picocuries per liter of water; or

3. Radioactivity emitted from gross beta particles in excess of 50 picocuries per liter of water.
