Section 441A.575 - Influenza

1. The health authority shall:
(a) For purposes of surveillance and
reporting, obtain sufficient information of each:
(1) Case having influenza that:
(I) Results in hospitalization and is
confirmed by a laboratory; or
(II)
Is of a viral strain that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention or the
World Health Organization has determined poses a risk of a national or global
pandemic; or
(2) Death of
a person who suffered from influenza at the time of death, as confirmed by a
laboratory.
(b) Obtain
sufficient information of each case having influenza that is novel or
untypeable to:
(1) Confirm the
diagnosis;
(2) Determine the extent
of any outbreak;
(3) Determine the
source of infection;
(4) Identify
and evaluate any contacts; and
(5)
Provide measures for prevention and control of the influenza.
3. If a case having influenza is in a medical facility, the medical facility shall provide care to the case in accordance with the appropriate disease specific precautions.
