Section 441A.557 - Hantavirus infection

1. The health authority shall investigate each report of:
(a) A case having a hantavirus infection, as
identified by serological testing for hantaviral antibodies,
immunohistochemistry studies, polymerase chain reaction studies or other
appropriate laboratory studies; and
(b) A suspected case having a hantavirus
infection, as identified by the presence of symptoms consistent with hantavirus
pulmonary syndrome.
2. The investigation required pursuant to subsection 1 must be conducted to:
(a) Confirm the diagnosis;
(b) Determine the extent of any outbreak of
hantavirus; and
(c) Determine the
source of the infection.
