Chapter 391 - EDUCATIONAL PERSONNEL
SPECIAL ENDORSEMENTS
Section 391.270 - Endorsement to teach music

To receive an endorsement to teach music, a person must have a bachelor's degree and:
1. Have completed an approved program of preparation for teaching music; or
2. Have completed:
(a) Twenty-two semester hours of professional
education which included:
(1) Foundations of
education;
(2) Methods of teaching
music in elementary or secondary grades;
(3) Eight semester hours of supervised
teaching; and
(4) Three semester
hours in strategies for working with students with disabilities, including
curricular adaptation; and
(b) Thirty-six semester hours in the
foundations of music which included:
(1) Music
theory;
(2) The history or
literature of music;
(3) Applied
music, including an area of specialization in vocal or instrumental
music;
(4) Conducting;
(5) Techniques for brass, woodwind,
percussion, piano and string instruments;
(6) Diction or vocal techniques and pedagogy;
and
(7) Music
ensemble.
