"pH" means the negative logarithm of the hydrogen ion concentration (pH = -log [H+]). pH expresses both the acidity and alkalinity of water on a scale from 0 to 14, with 7 representing neutrality (numbers less than 7 denote increasing acidity, and numbers greater than 7 denote increasing alkalinity).
