"Acute Mixing Zone" means the limited area or volume of a waterbody, as designated by the Department, which adjoins a point source discharge, where acute criteria may be exceeded while wastewaters which have received the applicable level of treatment or control are allowed to assimilate, disperse, dissipate, or undergo chemical transformation.
