Section 92-24-006.59 - Special Education - Severe/Multiple Disabilities

006.59A Grade Levels: Pre-kindergarten through grade 12.

006.59B Endorsement Type: Field.

006.59C Persons with this endorsement may teach children and youth with severe and multiple disabilities who are verified per 92 NAC 51 as children and youth with autism, deaf-blindness, mental handicap: moderate, mental handicap: severe/profound, multiple disabilities, orthopedic impairments, other health impairments, and traumatic brain injury. Persons with this endorsement may teach students ranging in age from kindergarten to the termination of public school educational responsibility.

006.59D Certification Endorsement Requirements: This endorsement shall require a minimum of 40 semester hours of course work in special education courses which include the following:

006.59D1 A minimum of 22 semester hours shall be in special education courses with specific emphasis on children and youth with severe and multiple disabilities.

006.59D2 The program shall include assessment skills, instructional and behavioral intervention skills in the listed disability areas, consultation and collaboration skills, and inclusive education practices.

006.59E Endorsement Program Requirements: Nebraska teacher education institutions offering this endorsement program must have on file, within the institution, a plan which identifies the courses and the course completion requirements which the institution utilizes to grant credit toward completion of this endorsement.
