Rule 24.138.407 - FUNCTIONS FOR DENTAL HYGIENISTS

(1) In addition to the functions of 37-4-401, MCA, a dental hygienist is allowed to perform the same functions as a dental auxiliary listed in ARM 24.138.406(2).
(2) In addition to the non-delegable duties under 37-4-401, MCA, a dental hygienist shall not be allowed to perform the following:
(a) administering or dispensing drugs other
than those allowed under
37-4-401 MCA, without the prior
authorization and direct supervision of the supervising dentist;
(b) providing oral health
instruction;
(c) applying topical
fluoride agents;
(d) removing
excess cement from coronal surfaces;
(e) placing and removing rubber
dams;
(3) The assignment of tasks and procedures to a dental hygienist shall not relieve the dentist from liability for all treatment rendered the patient.
