Section 11 CSR 40-5.070 - Accessibility to the Disabled

PURPOSE: This amendment changes the rule to adopt the most current version of the standard used to ensure accessibility to elevator equipment meets ADA requirements.

(1) New Installations of Accessible Passenger Elevators and Wheelchair Lifts. In addition to the standards imposed, the board hereby adopts and incorporates herein the American National Standards Institute Standard for Buildings and Facilities Providing Accessibility and Usability for Physically Disabled People, ANSI A117.1 2009 edition, Sections 407, 408, and 410, American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Three Park Avenue, New York, NY 10016 adopted by the Elevator Safety Board. This rule does not include any later amendments or additions.

(2) All elevator equipment installed prior to the development and adoption by the authority having jurisdiction of national accessibility standards are not required to meet this rule unless the equipment undergoes a major alteration.
