Rule 30-1901-2.2 - SCOPE OF PRACTICE

Universal Citation: MS Code of Rules 30-1901-2.2

Current through September 24, 2024

A. Level of Competency

The license to practice social work or marriage and family therapy does not permit the licensee to either offer or attempt to provide services which are beyond the level of competency they have attained through education, training, supervision or clinical experience, even though the service in question may be provided routinely by other licensed social workers or marriage and family therapists. The Licensed Social Worker (LSW) is prohibited from diagnosing, treating or conducting therapeutic groups or psychotherapy.

B. Responsibility of the Licensee

It is the legal and ethical responsibility of each licensed social worker and licensed marriage and family therapist to limit the scope of their practice to the parameters of their competencies. Further, all licensees are required to inform the Board, through submission in writing on Board designated forms, of a change of address, name, and other identifying information.
