In making recommendations for regulated activities, the Department will evaluate the proposed activity against the public policy of coastal wetlands protection in Section 49-27-3 of the Mississippi Code. Preference is to be given to preserving the coastal wetlands in their natural state, and the burden of demonstrating the higher public interest in altering coastal wetlands rests with the party proposing the alteration.
