If the death affects the public interest (See § 41-61-59) the medical examiner shall complete his portion of the death certificate and forward the certificate to the funeral director within forty-eight (48) hours of assuming jurisdiction over a death. In the event that the cause of death determination is awaiting laboratory or autopsy results, the medical examiner shall indicate such in the cause of death section and sign the record. Once the determination of the cause of death is made, the record shall be amended by completing and submitting the form Statement to Amend Cause of Death. The medical examiner's portion of the death certificate is:

1. Name of deceased

2. Hour and date of death

3. Place of death (hospital, institution, or physical location)

4. Certifier's signature

5. Cause and details of death
