Subpart 1. IFC section 603.5.
IFC section 603.5 is amended, and sections added, to read:
603.5
Heating
appliances. Heating appliances shall be listed and shall comply with
this section.
Exception: Unlisted appliances may be installed where permitted by the fire code official, provided clearance from combustibles is maintained in accordance with the Mechanical Code.
603.5.1
Guard against contact.
The heating element or combustion chamber shall be permanently guarded so as to
prevent accidental contact by persons or material.
603.5.2
Heating appliance installation
and maintenance. Heating appliances shall be installed and maintained in
accordance with the manufacturers instructions and the Minnesota State Building
Code.
603.5.3
Heating
appliance clearance to combustible materials. Clearances between
heat-producing appliances and combustibles shall be in accordance with this
section. Where specific manufacturers instructions or listings allow a
reduction from the distances specified in this section, those distances are
allowed. Clearance reductions permitted by the Mechanical Code are allowed.
603.5.3.1
Gas or fuel-oil
heaters. A minimum of 18 inches (457 mm) shall be maintained between gas
or fuel-oil heat-producing appliances and combustible materials.
603.5.3.2
Solid fuel-burning
heaters. A minimum of 36 inches (914 mm) shall be maintained between
solid fuel-burning appliances and combustible materials.

IFC section 603.8 and all subsections are deleted.
