Rule 7232.
(1) A crane, hoist and chain fall or winch, fixed or portable, shall have affixed to it a permanent tag showing the rated capacity and name of manufacturer and, if available, the model and serial numbers.
(2) A crane, hoist and chain fall or winch shall not be used to lift more than its rated capacity.
(3) Wire rope or cable used on a crane, hoist or winch shall be inspected monthly, and shall be replaced if:
(a) In any length of 8 diameters, the total
number of visible broken wires exceeds 10% of the total number of
wires.
(b) The wire rope or cable
has been kinked, crushed or bird caged or sustained other damage which distorts
the wire rope structure.
(c) The
wire rope or cable shows heat or corrosive damage.
