610 CMR - BOARD OF HIGHER EDUCATION
Title 610 CMR 3.00 - Appointment of Volunteer Chief Executive Officers at State Universities and Community Colleges

The Boards of Trustees of the State Universities and the Community Colleges, under extraordinary circumstances and as necessary to carry out and discharge their official duties, may appoint a volunteer acting chief executive officer (Acting President) who receives no compensation from the Commonwealth but receives compensation from a private employer for the period during which he or she is providing voluntary service to the college.

Appointments under 610 CMR 3.00 shall take effect upon approval of the Commissioner of Higher Education. In making a determination the Commissioner shall consider a written request from the Board of Trustees setting forth the reasons for the appointment and demonstrating the extraordinary circumstances for which the action is required. Appointments under 610 CMR 3.00 shall not exceed nine months unless the Commissioner approves an extension of the appointment in writing to the Board of Trustees.
