Title 105 CMR 430.000 - Minimum Standards for Recreational Camps for Children (State Sanitary Code, Chapter IV)
Section 430.100 - Camp Counselor and Junior Counselor Requirements

(A) Each counselor in a recreational camp for children shall:
(1) have at least four weeks
experience as a junior counselor, have participated in structured group
camping, or have at least four weeks experience in a supervisory role with
children; and
(2) have
satisfactorily completed a camp counselor orientation and training program as
specified in
105
CMR 430.091 prior to the arrival of
campers.
(B) Each junior counselor in a recreational camp for children shall have satisfactorily completed a junior counselor orientation program prior to the arrival of campers.
(C) The age of counselors shall be as follows:
(1) in residential,
primitive, sports, travel, trip and medical specialty camps:
(a) counselors shall be 18 years of age or
older or have graduated from high school;
(b) junior counselors shall be 16 years of
age or older;
(2) in a
day camp
(a) counselors shall be 16 years of
age or older;
(b) junior counselors
shall be 15 years of age or older.
(3) All counselors and junior counselors
shall be at least three years older than the campers whom they
supervise.
