A. A referee may, in the referee's discretion, penalize a boxer who fouls an opponent during a contest by charging the boxer with the loss of points for an intentional or unintentional foul.

B. A referee shall assess the penalty points after the occurrence of each foul based on the severity of the foul and the effect of the foul on the boxer's opponent.

C. The referee shall:

(1) Indicate on the official scorecard the number of points deducted from a boxer in any round a boxer is penalized; and

(2) Notify the judges and both boxers of the number of points to be deducted at the conclusion of each round.

D. Points may only be deducted for fouls that occur in the round for which points are assessed.
