Code of Maryland Regulations
Title 09 - MARYLAND DEPARTMENT OF LABOR
Subtitle 10 - RACING COMMISSION
Chapter 09.10.01 - Thoroughbred Rules
Section 09.10.01.78 - Quad Wagering

Universal Citation: MD Code Reg 09.10.01.78

Current through Register Vol. 51, No. 19, September 20, 2024

A. The quad is a contract by the purchaser of a ticket combining four horses to finish first, second, third, and fourth in that specific order in a race on which quad wagering is offered. Payment of the ticket shall be made only to the purchaser who has selected the same order of finish as officially posted.

B. The quad is not a parlay and has no connection with, or relation to, any other wagering pool and shall be calculated as an entirely separate pool.

C. Repealed.

D. If a ticket was not sold on the winning combination of a quad pool, the net pool shall be distributed to the holders of tickets selecting the first, second, and third finishers in that specific order. However, if a ticket was not sold combining the first, second, and third finishers in that specific order, the net pool shall be distributed to the holders of tickets selecting the first and second finishers in that specific order. However, if a ticket was not sold containing any of the above combinations, the net pool shall be distributed to the holders of tickets selecting the correct first place finisher. If less than four horses finish, the payoff shall be made to holders of tickets selecting the finishing horses in order, ignoring the balance of the selection.

E. If a ticket was not sold that would require distribution of the net quad pool to a winner as defined in §D of this regulation, the association shall make a full refund of the quad pool.

F. In the event of a dead heat or dead heats, all quad tickets selecting the correct order of finish, counting a horse in a dead heat as finishing in all of the positions encompassed by the dead heat, shall be winning tickets. When a dead heat occurs, the payoff shall be calculated using the same logic used for calculating the place and show pools.

G. In the event of a scratch in the quad, exchanges are not made. All tickets which include the scratched horse are eliminated from further participation in the quad pool and shall be refunded. Refunds on key horse wheel tickets may be made after the quad race is official. Key horse wheel tickets shall be sold during the entire quad wagering period at the posted price used when quad wagering opens.

H. Coupled entries are permitted but fields are prohibited in quad races.

I. If the horses in a coupled entry finish in more than one of the first four positions, one or more of the horses, as necessary, finishing directly after the first four horses shall be:

(1) Used to complete a winning selection consisting of four different numbers; and

(2) Assigned the positions behind those horses which have been advanced due to the coupled entry finishing in more than one of the first four positions.

J. Quad tickets shall be sold only by the licensee through pari-mutuel machines programmed to print all selections on one ticket. Resale of the tickets from one individual to another is prohibited and shall be grounds for ejection.

K. This regulation shall be printed in heavy type in a conspicuous place in the program, or prominently posted near the betting windows of any association permitted to conduct this type of wager.
