Title 09 - MARYLAND DEPARTMENT OF LABOR
Subtitle 10 - RACING COMMISSION
Chapter 09.10.01 - Thoroughbred Rules
Section 09.10.01.67 - Daily Doubles
Current through Register Vol. 51, No. 19, September 20, 2024
A. Daily doubles may be limited to one for each racing program.
B. Coupled entries are permitted.
C. Fields are prohibited in either half of the daily double. This section does not apply to races conducted by the Cecil County Breeders' Fair, Inc. (Fair Hill).
D. The pay-off shall be posted after the pool closes, and before the race completing the double has been run, except in the event of a dead heat in the first half of the daily double, when the posting of the pay-off may be deferred until the race completing the daily double has been run.
E. If no ticket is sold combining the two winners, the pool shall then be apportioned equally between those having tickets including the winner of the first race and those having tickets including the winner in the last race in the same manner in which a "place" pool is calculated and distributed.
F. If no ticket is sold including the winner of the first race, the entire pool will be paid to the holders of tickets which include the winner of the last race of the daily double.
G. Likewise if no ticket is sold including the winner of the last race, then the entire pool will be paid to the holders of tickets which include the winner of the first race of the daily double.
H. If no ticket is sold including the winner of either race, then the pool shall be paid to the holders of tickets which include the horses finishing second in the two races of the daily double. If no ticket is sold which would require distribution of the daily double pool, the association shall make a complete and full refund of the pool.
I. If for any reason the first race of a daily double is cancelled and declared "no race", full and complete refund will be made of the daily double pool. If for any reason the second race of a daily double is cancelled and declared "no race", the daily double pool shall be distributed to the holders of the daily double tickets on the winner of the first race in the same manner as the straight pool of the first race is distributed, except as to the amount of distribution, which shall be controlled by the amount bet in the daily double pool.
J. If, after the first half of the daily double has been run and declared official, a horse is excused or scratched in the second half of the daily double, then a consolation pay-off shall be made to holders of the daily double tickets which combine the winner of the first half of the daily double to the excused or scratched horse of the second half of the daily double computed in the following manner:
K. If the holder of a ticket loses the first race, and his horse is scratched in the second, no money shall be refunded.
