Chapter 221 - SELECTION OF VOLUNTEER PERSONNEL TO ESTABLISH / MAINTAIN RADIATION MONITORING PROGRAM
Section 144-221-4.0 - LOCATION AND USE OF MONITORING DEVICES

4.1 Purpose. The purpose of this section is to provide for the siting of and use of the monitoring devices.
4.2 Geographical Location. The monitoring devices shall be geographically distributed throughout the surveillance area to provide the most effective monitoring network. The following considerations apply:
4.3. Maintenance. The monitoring devices will be maintained in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations.
Each monitoring device will have a maintenance record. The record should contain as a minimum the following items:
4.4 Calibration. All monitoring devices shall be exposed to a check source at least monthly by the volunteer. Variances of average check source readings in excess of 10 percent shall be reported to the contact person of the Monitoring Network.
4.5 Operation of Monitoring Devices. Monitoring devices shall be in use 24 hours per day. The Radiation Control Program, with the assistance of the Monitoring Network, shall prepare a list of standing Operating Procedures covering the appropriate day-to-day operations and communications within the Monitoring Network.
4.6 Repair of Monitoring Devices.. The Radiation Control Program, or its representative shall be available to assist in all service inquiries regarding repair or malfunction. The performance standards will be provided as indicated in section 4.5.
4.7 Prohibited Uses of the Monitoring Devices. Unless the Radiation Control Program indicates otherwise, no volunteer is to remove a monitoring device from the home or property of the volunteer to take and report measurements of background radiation levels at other locations in the vicinity of Maine Yankee. Unauthorized use of monitoring devices will result in the removal of the volunteer from the network.
