Chapter 511 - NATIONAL CODES APPLICABLE TO ELEVATORS AND TRAMWAYS
Section 041-511-2 - Elevators

A. Pre-1984. The design, construction, installation, maintenance, repair, alteration, operation and inspection of elevators installed before January 1, 1984, must comply with the standards of ASME A17.3, 2011 edition.

B. On or After January 1, 1984. The design, construction, installation, maintenance, repair, alteration, operation and inspection of elevators installed on or after January 1, 1984, must comply with the standards of the following national codes and addenda:

Any device or equipment that constitutes an elevator, as that term is defined by 32 MRS §15202(5), must be designed, constructed, installed, maintained, repaired, altered, operated, and inspected in accordance with the standards specified in this section and not with any other national codes or standards.
