Chapter 11 - MEDICATIONS, PROHIBITED SUBSTANCES AND TESTING
Section 017-11-8 - PERMITTED NON-STEROIDAL ANTI-INFLAMMATORY DRUGS (NSAIDs)

1. The use of one of three permitted NSAIDS shall be allowed under the following conditions:

A. Concentrations that exceed the following threshold blood serum or plasma concentrations is a violation of this Section:
1. Phenylbutazone- 5 micrograms per milliliter;

2. Flunixin- 20 nanograms per milliliter

3. Ketoprofen- 2 nanograms per milliliter

B. The permitted NSAIDs may not be administered within 24 hours before post time for the race in which the horse is entered.

C. The presence of more than one of the three permitted NSAIDS in a blood serum or plasma concentration that exceeds the following thresholds is a violation of this Section:
1. Phenylbutazone- 0.5 micrograms per milliliter;

2. Flunixin- 3 nanograms per milliliter; or,

3. Ketoprofen- 1 nanograms per milliliter.

D. The use of all but one of the permitted NSAIDs shall be discontinued at least 48 hours before the post time for the race in which the horse is entered.

2. A horse participating in a Sire Stakes race that has a permitted NSAID in its system that exceeds the blood serum or plasma concentrations listed in (1) (C) of this Section is a violation.
