A. The definition of a household includes an individual or a group of individuals who live together and customarily purchase food and prepare meals together for home consumption.
B. Separate household status may not be granted to the following individuals or groups of individuals, even if they purchase and prepare meals separately:

The definition of a household provides that elderly individuals (and their spouses) who cannot prepare their own meals because they suffer from disabilities considered permanent under the Social Security Act or some other physical or mental non-disease-related disabilities may be a separate household even if living and eating with others. This is limited to those cases where the gross income of the individuals with whom the elderly or disabled person resides does not exceed 165 percent of the poverty level.
