Section I-925 - Meat and Meat Product Labeling [Formerly 49:3.0500]

A. When any meat product is placed in any can, pot, tin, canvas, or other receptacle or covering constituting an immediate or true container, there shall be affixed to such container or covering a label as hereinafter described; except that:
1. plain wrappings for fresh meat, such as
dressed carcasses and principal parts thereof, which are used solely to protect
the product against soiling or excessive drying during transportation or
storage need not bear a label;
2.
uncolored transparent coverings, such as cellophane or polyethylene sheeting,
which bear no printed or graphic matter, and which enclose any unpacked or
packaged meat or meat product bearing all required markings and/or labeling are
clearly legible through such coverings; and
3. animal and transparent artificial casings
bearing no marks or printed features other than those required in the foregoing
regulations need not bear additional labeling.
