A. A commander may receive information from many sources that an offense may have been committed by one of his Service members. For example, the unit commander himself may witness an offense, someone within the unit may report the offense, or a higher headquarters may forward a report for action. When a superior commander asks that a report be investigated and the disposition reported, the request should not be construed or interpreted as a directive to take disciplinary action.
