Chapter 5 - Regulation 33-Medicare Supplement Insurance Minimum Standards
Section XIII-501 - Purpose

A. The purpose of this regulation is:
1. to provide for the
reasonable standardization of coverage and simplification of terms and benefits
of Medicare supplement policies;
2.
to facilitate public understanding and comparison of such policies;
3. to eliminate provisions contained in such
policies which may be misleading or confusing in connection with the purchase
of such policies or with the settlement of claims; and
4. to provide for full disclosures in the
sale of accident and sickness insurance coverages to persons eligible for
Medicare.
5. to incorporated Medigap
policies that cover Part B deductibles to "newly eligible" Medicare
beneficiaries defined as those individuals who:
a. have attained age 65 on or after January
1, 2020; or
b. first become
eligible for Medicare due to age, disability or end-stage renal disease, on or
after January 1, 2020.
