Section XV-716 - Calibration and Checking of Survey Instruments

A. A licensee shall ensure that the survey instruments used to show compliance with this Chapter have been calibrated before first use, annually, and following repair.
B. To satisfy the requirements of Subsection A of this Section, the licensee shall:

To satisfy the requirements of Subsection B of this Section, the licensee shall consider a point as calibrated if the indicated exposure rate differs from the calculated exposure rate by not more than 20 percent, and shall conspicuously attach a correction chart or graph to the instrument. A licensee may not use survey instruments if the difference between the indicated exposure rate and the calculated exposure rate is more than the allowed 20 percent.
D. A licensee shall check each survey instrument for proper operation with the dedicated check source before each use. The licensee is not required to keep records of these checks.
E. The licensee shall retain a record of each calibration required in Subsection A of this Section for two years. The record shall include:

To meet the requirements of Subsections A, B, and C of this Section, the licensee may obtain the services of individuals licensed by the department, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, an agreement state, or a licensing state to perform calibrations of survey instruments. Records of calibrations that contain information required by Subsection E of this Section shall be maintained by the licensee.
