A. Adult learners apply fast and accurate decoding skills to read with the proper rhythm, intonation, and expression in order to increase comprehension.
1. Mastery should be evidenced by completion
of High Intermediate (6.0-8.9).
a. Group
words appropriately into meaningful grammatical units for
interpretation.
b. Use punctuation
to determine where to place emphasis or pause in order to make sense from
written print and non-print text during oral reading.
c. Apply context clues to interpret written
print and non-print text.
d. Read
at an appropriate pace based upon the level of materials and the purpose for
reading.
