Article 35 - RADIATION
Section 28-35-256 - Training for X-ray system operators

The following subjects shall be included in the training of X-ray equipment operators, as applicable:

(a) Familiarization with the following:

(1) Identification of controls;

(2) the function of each control; and

(3) how to use technique charts;

(b) radiation protection using the following:

(1) Collimation;

(2) filtration;

(3) gonad shielding and, if used, other patient protection devices;

(4) restriction of X-ray tube radiation to the image receptor;

(5) personnel protection; and

(6) grids;

(c) film processing, including the following:

(1) Film speed as related to the patient's exposure to radiation;

(2) film processing parameters; and

(3) a quality assurance program;

(d) emergency procedures, which shall include the termination of exposure if an automatic timing device fails;

(e) the proper use of personnel dosimetry, if required; and

(f) understanding the units of radiation.
