The historic preservation program operates to survey, evaluate significance, nominate to the National Register of Historic Places, and protect the historic buildings, structures, historic sites, objects, districts and landscapes of Iowa. Through the historic preservation program the society creates, fosters, and plans for the preservation of Iowa's historic resources.
