Sec. 8.
(a) For purposes of IC 25-27.5, "general anesthesia" means a drug-induced loss of consciousness during which patients are not arousable, even by pain stimulation.
(b) The following are conditions that a patient under general anesthesia may experience:
(1) The ability to independently maintain
ventilatory function is often impaired.
(2) Patients often require assistance in
maintaining a patent airway, and positive pressure ventilation may be required
due to depressed spontaneous ventilation or drug-induced depression of
neuromuscular function.

Cardiovascular function may be impaired.
