Section 9-2 - Short term disability; elimination period

Sec. 2.

To be eligible for short term disability benefits, an employee must be absent from work for an elimination period of thirty (30) consecutive calendar days. Authorization for absence and salary continuation during the elimination period is sought under the rules relating to:

(1) vacation leave;

(2) sick leave;

(3) personal leave;

(4) compensatory time;

(5) previously accrued special sick leave;

(6) new parent leave;

(7) leave without pay; or

(8) worker's compensation.

The employee may choose the order in which vacation leave, sick leave, personal leave, or compensatory time is charged during the elimination period. On the thirty-first calendar day of an absence due to disability, the employee becomes eligible for short term disability benefits.
