Sec. 7.

"Duty status" means that an individual is on the department or agency payroll and that any injury or illness that occurs to the individual while at the academy will be covered by the employing department or agency under worker's compensation. The term also applies to any unpaid reserve police officer, special deputy, or special police officer assigned by a department to attend training presented by the board; it shall be the responsibility of the officer's department, not the board, to pay for expenses that result from any injury or illness incurred by a reserve police officer, special deputy, or special police officer during assigned training.
