Section 8-27 - Dental care

Sec. 27.

Written policy, procedure, and practice provide that dental care is provided to each juvenile. There is a defined scope of available dental services that includes the following:

(1) A dental screening conducted upon admission by a qualified health care professional or health trained staff.

(2) Dental care education provided by a qualified health care professional or health trained staff.

(3) Proper dental care that includes the following:

(A) Juveniles shall be allowed to brush their teeth at least twice daily.

(B) The facility shall provide dental examinations by a physician or dentist, if needed.

(C) The facility shall provide emergency dental care, as needed.

(4) Consultation and referral to dental specialists, including oral surgery, when necessary, along with notification of the parent or legal guardian.

(5) Development of an individualized dental treatment plan for juveniles receiving dental services.
