Illinois Administrative Code
Title 35 - ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION
Part 204 - PREVENTION OF SIGNIFICANT DETERIORATION
Subpart B - DEFINITIONS
Section 204.430 - Greenhouse Gases (GHGs)

Current through Register Vol. 48, No. 38, September 20, 2024

"Greenhouse gases" or "GHGs" means the air pollutant defined in 40 CFR 86.1818-12(a) as the aggregate group of six greenhouse gases: CO2, nitrous oxide, methane, hydrofluorocarbons, perfluorocarbons, and sulfur hexafluoride. To represent an amount of GHGs emitted, the term "tpy CO2 equivalent emissions (CO2e)" shall be used. CO2e is computed as follows:

a) Multiply the mass amount of emissions (tpy), for each of the six greenhouse gases in the pollutant GHGs, by the gas' associated global warming potential published at 40 CFR 98, subpart A, table A-1 (Global Warming Potentials) (incorporated by reference in Section 204.100).

b) Sum the resultant value for each gas to compute tpy CO2e.
