Chapter 104 - THE MOVEMENT BY PERMIT OF OVERSIZE AND OVERWEIGHT VEHICLES ON STATE HIGHWAYS
Section 19-104-1 - Purpose

(a) The purpose of this chapter is to prescribe the policies and procedures of the department of transportation for the issuance of permits for the movement of oversize or overweight vehicles or loads on state highways and to set forth the general and special conditions for the issuance of permits for such movements:

(1) To protect the general public from traffic hazards created by the movement;

(2) To give due regard to the comfort and conveniences of other motorists on the highway and to guard against undue hindrance to the normal flow of traffic; and

(3) To prevent damage to pavement, highway facilities and structures.

(b) The department shall not issue permits to operate overweight or oversize vehicles where it is or becomes apparent, after investigation, that the issuance of such permits would be in direct conflict with the purpose of this chapter.
