The entering and ordering of a property into the Hawaii register signifies a recognition that the owner has a historic property, and that the preservation and maintenance of the property is contributing to the State's and nation's historic patrimony, and is thus serving the public. When privately owned property is ordered into the Hawaii register, certain responsibilities are placed on the owners as set forth in sections 6E-10 and 343-5, Hawaii Revised Statutes.
